Womens Coping Skills for Work As a social psychologist preparing for a research venture, it is imperative to review literature related to coping in regard to stereotyping and discriminating against women in the workplace. Interest lies not only in understanding the root of the problem, but in identifying coping techniques for women. Formal research on the latter is needed as there seem to be only a few people working in the field. Six research studies are reviewed, including Cohen & Huffman (2003) on how gender inequality across the United States results in devaluation of wages and labor markets, Tallichet (200) on formal and informal sexualization of female roles in the Appalachian mining industry, Smith et al. (2003) on bullying of women in the workplace, Fry (1995) on coping strategy effects on physical health, and Tannen (1995) on the linguistics/socialization factors behind the failure of women to promote themselves in the workplace.
